Is it possible to supplement post graduate study / part time work with a job which is intellectual
At Enjoy Education, many graduates and academics have found tutoring to be a great alternative to monotonous and under paid work and as a means to supporting themselves in London through a PHD, internship or similar.
An interesting intellect (academic whilst friendly with a range of skills and experiences) can make a great tutor. We currently have over 600 tutors on our books who work throughout London and also take on residential placements in the UK and abroad. We have hundreds of CVs sent to us each month and take great care to find tutors who have a genuine interest in education. As well as academics currently teaching in the top universities, some tutors are trained teachers while others have extensive backgrounds in communication skills and confidence-building. Tutors may take on placements around their own post graduate commitments and are able to give a truly developed approach to academic study, bringing in the latest research to their tutoring.
One of our tutors Isla shares her views: “I started a Master’s degree at UCL last year and instead of working part time in the student bar, I decided to apply to Enjoy Education for tutoring work, after hearing about them from a friend. So far, I’ve tutored several students, mainly for Common Entrance and one in essay technique for A level. I used to work as a TEFL teacher and it’s been great to build on this experience and to feel the satisfaction of seeing a pupil “get” a difficult concept. I would definitely recommend working as a tutor.”
