Does addition make you ache and subtraction make you snooze? Try this fun ‘mystery word’ exercise to flex some mathematical muscles in a livelier way…
Mystery word
Each letter has its own number. Work out the sums below and then find out which letter belongs to the answer. Arrange the letters in order to create the mystery word.

Now make up your own word. Pick the letters, then work out the sums you will need to get them. For example, if I wanted to start with ‘I’, I might use the sum 11 x 6.
